9th Graders
- Meet with your counselor.
- Get to know your school (Who can you go to for
- support? Is there tutoring?)
- Begin exploring your strengths and interests.
- Join clubs or sports to get leadership and
- teamwork experience.
- Use khanacademy.org to practice for the PSAT
- test.
- Understand how to calculate your grades (GPA)
- and aim for Bs or better (3.0)
- Make sure you are taking the right classes.
- Do something educational over the summer!
BigFuture Setup: It's time to set up your BigFuture Account! BigFuture is a planning tool brought to you by College Board, the organization that runs the SAT- a standardized test used by many college admission teams. Your BigFuture account will help you plan for your life beyond high school and offer you scholarship opportunities as you complete your planning process. Make sure to store your password in a safe space, as you will be using this account throughout your high school journey.
9th Grade Checklist: Once you set up your BigFuture account, you will be able to check off items on the 9th grade checklist as you complete them. Make sure to use this list when checking in with your counselors, teachers, parents, Mason CAN staff, and anyone else who's helping you on your education journey.
Make a Vision Board: 9th grade sets the tone for the rest of your education journey. Start paying attention to things that interest you, goals you want to explore, and anything that makes you curious. Creating a vision board is a fun, low-stakes way to set goals for this next part of your education journey. You can make a digital vision board on Pinterest (which you can use as your phone or desktop wallpaper), or a physical one with old magazines.
